ZOE URGES RESIDENTS TO USE LOCAL CREDIT UNION

January 23rd, 2023.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Deputy Leader of Lewes District Council and Leader of the Green Group, is showing her support for Wave Community Bank, by joining and saving through the Chorus Workplace Savings Scheme.

Wave Community Bank is the credit union for East Sussex and supports residents with savings accounts and affordable loans. WCB is part of LDC’s Cost of Living Crisis Action Group working with the council and agencies across the district to support residents through this difficult time.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson explained: "We have put a heavy focus on support for the most vulnerable people in Lewes district and credit unions and community banks play an important role too.

"I was delighted to meet the team from Wave Community Bank and find out more about their work across East Sussex.”

Emma Norledge, Deputy CEO of Wave Community Bank added: “At a time when family budgets are being squeezed and over 40% of people don’t have enough savings to survive for a month without income, it’s more important than ever that people try to save for a rainy day. Also the pressure to make ends meet, means that people are more susceptible to borrowing from illegal money lenders, and we are urging people to turn to their local credit union first.

"Wave Community Bank, like credit unions across the UK, is here to help people with financial services, so they can manage their money and borrow affordably if they need to."

Residents can join WCB via the website www.wavecb.org.uk or by downloading the Wave Community Bank app. They can set up regular savings, or apply for a loan online as well, and if they work for one of WCB’s Employer Partners, they can save and repay loans simply and easily straight from their wages.
