Lewes District Council is celebrating a ‘significant milestone’, with all four of its most senior leadership roles now held by women for the first time in its 52-year history.

Last week, Councillor Charlotte Keenan was elected as Chair and Councillor Nikki Fabry as Vice-Chair for the coming year.

These appointments, alongside Councillor Zoe Nicholson as Leader and Councillor Christine Robinson as Deputy Leader, mean all four key civic leadership roles at the council are currently held by women. a first since the council was established in 1974.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of the Council, said: “This is a significant and positive milestone for Lewes District Council. Seeing women in each of these leadership roles reflects the progress we are making and the value of different perspectives in public life. Together, we will continue to focus on delivering high-quality services and positive outcomes for residents across the district.”

Councillor Charlotte Keenan, Chair of the Council, added: “I’m really pleased to step into this role at such an important moment. It means a great deal to represent our communities on behalf of Lewes District Council, and I’m looking forward to supporting local groups, celebrating achievements and working closely with residents over the year ahead.”
