STRUGGLING HOUSEHOLDS CAN APPLY FOR EXTRA FINANCIAL HELP

October 13th, 2022.

LDC release:

Extra financial support is available to residents in Lewes district who are struggling to keep warm, buy enough food or pay essential bills.

Lewes District Council is inviting applications for the Household Support Fund in its latest move to help people through the cost-of-living crisis.

The announcement follows hot on the heels of the council’s decision to create a ‘safety net’ for people on low incomes who will miss out on the government’s £650 cost-of-living payment and, most recently of all, the setting up of a fund for projects in the district that address food resilience, advice services, tackle digital exclusion and green energy initiatives.

Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Deputy Leader of Lewes District Council, explained: “These are uncertain times and I know that many individuals and families are very worried about how they will cope over the coming months.

“We were clear from the outset that the need for a safety net was overwhelming and we have put these different funding pots in place to achieve that, directly helping the people who are in most need.

“I want to encourage people in these circumstances to visit the council website and see what financial support is available to them – we are here for them.”
