Newhaven Lib Dems release:




Liberal Democrats in Newhaven are pleased that their campaign, supported by hundreds of local residents, demanding safety improvements at the A26 junction with the B2109 Avis Road has been successful.

Cllr James MacCleary said: "There have been too many fatal incidents at this junction. The poor design of the junction combined with insufficient maintenance make it incredibly dangerous for motorists and other road users."

Cllr Sean Macleod (pictured) added: "We launched our campaign because we thought enough was enough. Somebody had to act. We collected hundreds of petition signatures and handed them to National Highways."

Earlier this month, National Highways revealed how they intend to improve the junction. They will install traffic lights as a way of making the junction safer with other planned improvements also to come such as reducing the speed limit in certain areas.

Cllr Sean Macleod said: “Since I have been a local councillor I have worked hard to try and make this junction safer. I, along with the local Liberal Democrat team have worked so hard to get to this point. The plans may not be perfect but they will make this dangerous stretch of road so much safer. This is a real win for local people power."
