Newhaven Liberal Democrat Councillors Lesley Boniface and Carolyn Lambert have written to the Leader of Lewes District Council, Cllr Zoe Nicholson, expressing concern at the removal of a number of bus shelters in the town.

Cllr Boniface explains: “The shelters being removed are the ones provided by Bauer Media, under what is now an expired contract with Lewes District Council. These are specifically the shelters which usually have advertising panels on them and were mainly positioned along the A259. The other shelters in Seaford are under the ownership of the Town Council and are not in jeopardy.

However, where the shelters have been removed, glass has been left in the surrounding area which is clearly dangerous”.

Cllr Carolyn Lambert adds: “We are now rapidly approaching autumn and winter when residents of Seaford and Newhaven will need shelter from the weather. So far Lewes District Council has been unable to provide a timetable for when the bus shelters will be replaced.

Cllr Boniface and I urge Lewes District Council to take this seriously and to ensure that the new shelters are erected as a matter of urgency now.”
