Tickets are selling fast for the Ignite Theatre Company’s production of James and the Giant Peach, which starts a two-weekend run tomorrow at Meeching Hall in Fort Road, Newhaven.The local dramatic group is building a reputation for its high-quality productions, and the latest show - a unique take on Roald Dahl’s classic James and the Giant Peach, adapted by David Wood - is promising to be a highlight of the festive season.
Join the cast of actors and members of the local community aged from 7 to 78 as they chart the adventures of the reluctant hero James and his insect friends as they cross the Atlantic in a giant peach. As ever, the theatre company has worked in collaboration with local community groups and creatives, and this production features choreography from Newhaven’s Norcross Dance, and original songs and music by local musicians Nick Pynn and Kate Daisy Grant.
Ignite’s Creative Producer Lisa Fairfield is delighted with how the show is coming together, with an exquisite set painted by Newhaven artist Caroline Marsland.

HERE.James and the Giant Peach is the last event in the 2023 BN9 Programme of creative events, and is made possible by grants from the Newhaven Arts Growth Fund and the town council via Newhaven Festival. The Newhaven Arts Growth Fund, which is now in its second year of funding from the Newhaven Enterprise Zone, has awarded grants to five grassroots arts projects this year, demonstrating the commitment to fostering arts and culture in and around the town.
