By November the 17th, Havens Food Cooperative will have successfully redistributed £1 million worth of surplus food, making a huge impact in the community.Since the start in April 2020, Havens Food Cooperative has collaborated with 19 local stores in the Havens area to rescue and redirect surplus food. The dedicated volunteers and the stores they work with have ensured that surplus food is rediverted and better utilised to support the community.
Not only has this prevented food from ending up in landfill, the daily Community Pantry at Havens Community Hub, has also supported 17 local groups and organisations through the Pop-up- Pantry scheme, through which groups including schools, clubs, foodbanks and more receive surplus food to redistribute to the wider community.
This commitment to fighting food waste and feeding the community remains strong.
