GREEN PARTY SAYS SOUTHERN WATER HAS QUESTIONS TO ANSWER

November 2nd, 2022.

Lewes District Green Party release:

Lewes District councillors will have the chance to question Southern Water over its record on sewage discharge and water quality at an upcoming meeting, which they say is likely to be heated.

The meeting is a result of a Green Party motion in May, which also made Lewes District Council the first council in the UK to question Southern Water about how new planning applications will affect levels of untreated sewage discharge, and which was accompanied by a public protest attracting more than 60 people.

Green Party Councillor and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Emily O’Brien explained: “The situation with untreated sewage being regularly discharged into our rivers and seas is an on-going disgrace. Southern Water has questions to answer, and I am delighted we have created the opportunity for our local councillors to be able to hold he company to account.”
