The Friends of Tide Mills completed their November meeting on Sunday with eleven of us recovering three large bags of assorted rubbish along with one bag of recyclable items. It was disappointing to find the amount of rubbish deposited on the beach itself, undoubtedly a result of the recent gales.
It also has to be said that, as is usually the case, the vast majority of this beach rubbish is a fishing related, both recreational and commercial. I personally believe that the majority of this material must be coming from local Newhaven-registered boats.
As we have suggested in the past; surely a rubbish/fishing net remnant receptacle on each boat would prevent this material from ending up in the sea, which is the place that the crews and owners make their living?
Our next meeting is on Sunday the 21st of December. More details on our Friends group from me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com
