April 20th, 2026.
Jim Skinner reports:
The Friends of Tide Mills completed their April meeting in glorious Spring weather yesterday.
Fourteen of us collected just one bag of discarded rubbish and one bag of recyclable items. This is very heartening and as always we appreciate those visitors who take their litter home. This really does make a difference to this very special local open space.
On a negative note, two of the three Port Nature Reserve interpretation signs have been subject to a graffiti attack> This of course is pointless and will now result in them having to be cleaned.
The vegetated shingle plants are now starting to emerge and in a short few weeks these will display their flowers, always a sign of early Summer.
Another indicator of Summer is the arrival of the Ringed Plovers that nest on the shingle. We do ask visitors to be aware of these little birds' attempts to breed, and if disturbance could be minimised in their vicinity this would be appreciated.
Our next meeting is on Sunday the 17th of May.
