Founded in 1976 by Steve Fachiri in Wadhurst, East Sussex, Harvey Lloyd Screens began life producing point-of-sale graphics, signage and commercial print for agencies and the high street. Nearly fifty years later, the studio has become one of the UK’s most respected specialist screen printers, known for its collaborative approach, technical expertise and enduring connection to contemporary British graphic art.The studio’s direction shifted in the early 2000s, when Anthony Burrill arrived looking to print a small run of postcards. Through Burrill, and then through word of mouth, artists, illustrators and designers began discovering Harvey Lloyd, leading to collaborations with many of the most recognisable names in contemporary graphic art and illustration.
Central to the studio’s story is the partnership between Steve Fachiri and Tracey Day, who joined Harvey Lloyd through the Youth Training Scheme in 1989 and never left. Together, they have built a reputation not only for exceptional printmaking, but for their warmth, humour and can-do attitude. While organising 50 Years of Print, not a single artist invited to participate declined — a testament to the affection and respect held for the studio across the industry.
Curated by Owen Gildersleeve in partnership with Look Again Newhaven, 50 Years of Print brings together more than 50 artists, designers and illustrators, including Mr Bingo, Anthony Burrill, Orla Kiely, Mr Doodle, Oliver Jeffers, Morag Myerscough, Neville Brody, Supermundane, Sarah Boris, Seb Lester, Louise Lockhart and Tom Pigeon, alongside a new generation of emerging talent selected through Grand Matter’s Future Makers programme.
Presented at the BN9 Studio in Marine Workshops, Newhaven, the exhibition is accompanied by a month-long programme of talks, workshops, live screen printing and events. The opening night will see Mr Doodle create a special one-off live mural directly
onto a gallery wall, responding to new prints produced by Harvey Lloyd especially for the exhibition.
The exhibition continues Look Again Newhaven’s growing programme of ambitious cultural activity in the town, following the widely celebrated Supergraphics Festival in 2024 and the hugely popular Bruce Asbestos exhibition in 2025 and Community of Kindness in 2026.
