August 20th, 2023.
Fun was had by all, last Thursday (10th), when Newhaven Museum opened its doors to a free family fun day. Over 100 children came with parents, grandparents and carers to enjoy a range of activities.Costumes, from Gladrags, enabled children to become Roman soldiers, Victorians, flappers or evacuees. Little hands were kept busy making origami lifeboats, Dazzle ships and ferries, or in creating colourful designs for the lighthouse. A photo trail around the museum encouraged children (and their adults) to find out more about Newhaven’s past, whilst object handling helped them understand how people used to live and the toys children played with.
There was much excitement when children had the chance to meet ‘Elsa’. Nearly every child (and some adults, including the museum’s hard working volunteers) left the museum with a brightly painted face or a glitter tattoo courtesy of Becca the face painter.
Newhaven museum is open on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Fridays and Saturdays between 11.00am and 4.00pm until the 28th of October. Adult admission is £3.00 with accompanied children under 16 FREE. Paradise Park badge holders or members are also free.
