CORONATION BEACON TO BE LIT AT THE FORT TONIGHT

May 7th, 2023.

Newhaven Town Council, in conjunction with Newhaven Fort, will light a Beacon to mark the King’s Coronation this evening and invite members of the public to join in to commemorate this historic occasion at the atmospheric surroundings of Newhaven Fort.

Newhaven Town Mayor, Cllr. Paul Boswell said: “We are proud to be part of this momentous celebration. It is only appropriate that this milestone in history is marked with a beacon and music. We are honoured to be part of this special event for Their Majesties, King Charles III and Queen Camilla.”

The event will begin with Seaford piper Richard Brookes playing Leaving Port Asking, followed by Newhaven-based choir, Haven Harmonies, and local bugle player Heidi Watkins.

The Beacon will be lit at around 9.00pm by the Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, Juliet Smith. The Master of Ceremonies will be Newhaven Town Crier, Jason Ede.

Gates open at 8.00pm, with the event due to finish at around 9.15pm
