NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO ASSIST DIVERS

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ and her volunteer crew were launched yesterday morning at 9:40am to assist divers separated from their dive vessel which had broken down.


The two divers surfaced to find their boat was drifting from their position.

Newhaven lifeboat headed to the position 8.5 miles south-east of Newhaven and arrived on scene at 10.13am. A local Windcat vessel offered assistance and recovered the divers.

The lifeboat then towed the rigid inflatable boat (RIB) withtwo persons on board back to the safety of Newhaven harbour and put her alongside at 11.25am.

The lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service at 12.10pm.
