VOLUNTEER DRIVER CHARITY OPENS

The Mayor of Newhaven, Councillor Graham Amy, officially opened the Havens Community Cars charity at their new office in Thompson Road, Denton on Monday.


Mayor Amy praised the efforts of the volunteers and Trustees in creating the scheme. He mentioned that he personally knew local people who were unable to use public transport who would benefit from the service and who needed help to attend vital hospital appointments and other essential daily living journeys.

The charity has also appointed Nikki Marten as Scheme Co-ordinator. Chair of Trustees, Paula Woolven, explained: "We were delighted to be able to appoint such an approachable, community-minded manager, and Nikki will sustain and grow this vital new service for coastal residents from Seaford to Saltdean. We know that every journey matters."

Volunteer drivers can give as little as two hours per week to make a difference and are fully trained and provided with PPE equipment with fuel expenses are reimbursed.
