VETERANS AND ARMED FORCES DAY 2019

May 13th, 2019.

Veterans and Armed Forces Day for the District of Lewes and surrounding towns and villages is being arranged for Saturday the 29th of June at the Martello Fields in Seaford.

The organisers, a joint committee consisting of the Seahaven Branch, The Royal Society of St George, Seaford Town Council and the Seaford Branch of The Royal British Legion have introduced a new feature this year. It is a parade through Seaford starting at midday in Place Lane and ending at the Martello Fields.

The Martello Fields will be open (free of charge) from 11.00am where visitors can see a variety of stalls and watch displays in the arena.

Just before 12.30pm, the parade, led by the Surrey and Sussex Drum and Bugle Corps, with Standards, Veterans and Cadets will arrive at the Arena for the Inspection. It will have left Place Lane, at noon, turned right into Broad Street, turned right into the High Street then advanced along the Causeway to the Sea Front pausing before reaching the Martello Tower Saluting Base to allow more veterans to join the parade. The Salute will be taken by a Deputy Lieutenant for East Sussex, the Mayor of Seaford and Vice President of the Seahaven Branch RSSG.

There will be military vehicles and plenty to see on the day, and Seaford Martello Rotary Club will be present with their Tavern in a Tent.

This is a special day in the District’s calendar when everyone’s attendance shows support for those who do and who have defended our shores.

Collections will be made on the day for the nominated Armed Forces Charity, which this year is The Royal British Legion.
