VETERANS AND ARMED FORCES DAY

June 13th, 2019.

The Annual Veterans and Armed Forces Day for the District of Lewes and surrounding towns and villages will be taking place on Saturday the  29th of June at the Martello Fields in Seaford.

This is a special day in the District’s calendar and a chance to honour and remember those serving in the Armed Forces today and of yesteryear who have defended our shores. The event is free of charge and is one of the remaining events of this type in the South East.

The event is organised by a joint committee of Seaford Town Council, The Royal Society of St George and The Royal British Legion. The parade will set off from Place Lane at 12 noon led by the Surrey and Sussex Drum and Bugle Corps, with Standards, Veterans and Cadets.

After leaving Place Lane at noon, the parade will continue into Broad Street, High Street, then advance along the Causeway to the seafront, pausing before reaching the Martello Tower Saluting Base to allow more veterans to join the parade. The Salute will be taken by a Deputy Lieutenant for East Sussex, the Mayor of Seaford and Vice President of the Seahaven Branch RSSG.

Collections will be made on the day for the nominated Armed Forces Charity, which this year is The Royal British Legion.

Veterans and Cadets will be presented with a commemorative pin marking the 75th Anniversary of D- Day.
