TRAFALGAR NIGHT AT THE VIEW

Members and friends of the Seahaven Branch of The Royal Society of St George assembled at The View at Seaford Head Golf Club on Thursday the 21st of October for a formal dinner to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar and remember Lord Nelson.


The Chair of the District Council along with four Mayors from local towns; Newhaven, Peacehaven, Seaford and Telscombe, were the guests who were welcomed by Bob Peedle MBE, Branch Chairman.

A talk was given about the battle, followed by the toast, 'The Immortal Memory', by branch member Rob Willis, a former Cadet Petty Officer from the Newhaven Sea Cadet,s who comes from a naval family. Grandfather Richard Willis, a former RN Submariner and other members of the family were present.

During the evening, President Laurie Holland, on behalf of the Branch, presented a new vacuum cleaner to the Newhaven Station of The National Coastwatch Institute. This was received by branch member Sheila Thomas, who is also a senior NCI watchkeeper.

Branch Vice President Steve Saunders and treasurer Jan White ran the raffle for the evening which brought in a valuable boost to the Seahaven Branch of The Royal Society of St George finances, which will be used to provide more gifts to worthwhile local projects and charities.

The event finished with President Laurie Holland and a toast to absent friends.

The next two events arranged by the Branch Events Secretary, Liz Holland, will be a lunch at he Seaford Golf Club (Batchington) on Friday the 19th of November and a Christmas Lunch at the Inn on the Park, Deanlands on the 21st of December.,
