TIME RUNNING OUT TO APPLY FOR COVID-19 SUPPORT GRANTS

July 31st, 2020.

Lewes District Council is issuing a final call for local businesses to access Covid-19 support grants as next month's closure date nears, with £21.7m so far paid out.

The council has paid grants to 81% of all eligible small or retail, hospitality and leisure businesses, equating to 1,763 firms.

The Small Business Grant Fund and the Retail, Hospitality & Leisure Grant Fund will close on Friday, the 28th of August.

Meanwhile, the council’s Discretionary Grants Fund has already closed with all money allocated.

Councillor James MacCleary, Leader of Lewes District Council, said: “I am pleased that such a high percentage of eligible businesses in our district have received these grants quickly and securely during a very difficult time for trading.

"I want to make sure businesses are getting as much support as possible. There is a lot more government could do to help and we can only hope that there is more support available in the coming months.

“In the meantime, if you believe your business meets the criteria for this funding, please contact us soon as time is running short to apply.”

Subject to checks, successful applicants usually receive grants payments three days after contacting the council.
