THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF ST GEORGE A GOOD START TO THE NEW YEAR FOR THE SEAHAVEN BRANCH

January 30th, 2019.

The Seahaven Branch of The Royal Society of St George started the New Year off with a lunch held at the Seaford Golf Club on the 11th of January. It provided a lift of spirits after attending the funeral of branch member Bill Simpson on the previous day.

Then, on the 22nd of January, a few members, led by President Laurie Holland, visited the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity at Cuckfield, to present cheques to the value of £900 to buy special educational and development toys for the children. It was a moving experience to see the progress that is made with the youngsters by this wonderful charity. It supports children with cerebral palsy and other motor learning impairments, mainly under five, to realise their full potential.

The donation from the Seaford Branch was for £450, and this was matched by the Charitable Trust of the Royal Society, so £900 was exactly the amount needed to buy a long list of special equipment.

2019 is a special year for The Royal Society of St George as it is the 125th Anniversary of its formation in 1894. All branches have been invited to have at least one special event during the year. The Seahaven Branch is planning a South Coast Summer Banquet for July - details to be announced.

The branch’s AGM is in February, but the other important dates are Tuesday 23rd April St George’s Day, Saturday 8th June the official birthday of our Royal Patron HM The Queen, Sunday 15th September Battle of Britain Day and Monday 21st October Trafalgar Day. Our members will also be attending many National RSSG events in support of the Anniversary, including a special parade and service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Saturday 27th April.
