THE DEANS SENIOR TEA CLUB

September 15th, 2020.

The Deans Senior Tea Club is a local charity that run social clubs for seniors in Peacehaven, Telscombe and Saltdean. It has been supporting people for over seven years and currently has over 200 members.

The Club's aim is to combat loneliness in old age while also having a jolly good time. Trips, entertainment, arts and crafts, quizzes and games for seniors are all on the menu. But it's down to the members to suggest activites and these have ranged from belly dancers to historical talks!

Pre-Covid-19, care home residents and their carers, plus all seniors and their families, were invited to pop along to a club meeting for a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a chat. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the venues are not yet ready to re-open, but the club is offering a telephone befriending service for those who just want a chat. In fact all members receive a weekly call for friendship and a catch-up chat.

Befrienders are trained to be able to identify and refer any emerging issues or concerns, to try and reduce loneliness, isolation and improve wellbeing and mood.

The club is also working on donations, to put together hampers to distribute to members and other vulnerable elderly people locally, to send a smile and promote the befriending service. Volunteers have already delivered some hampers which were happily received and the aim is to continue, so all donations are welcome!
