ST GEORGE TO THE RESCUE

June 21st, 2018.

The CTLA received new First Aid Kits for its 22 buses from the Seahaven Branch of The Royal Society of St George (RSSG) on Monday.

Branch President RSSG, Laurie Holland and Chairman Bob Peedle MBE attended the Hillcrest Centre in Newhaven to visit the headquarters of the Community Transport for the Lewes Area to receive a guided tour and briefing from Paula Woolven the manager. Later they joined Louise Botting, the customer advisor and Cameron Bryant, a student from Plumpton College on work placement, outside where the buses were on display. Cameron had noticed that some of the First Aid kits were out of date or had items missing, so a request was made to the Seahaven Branch RSSG for new kits.

CTLA is a vital local charity providing transport where Public Transport does not meet the need and last year carried over 80,000 passengers. Many people, either the mature or those with disabilities, have been helped where otherwise they may have been housebound. CTLA gives these people a valuable social outlet, as well as enabling their journeys to the shops, hospitals or the doctors. Whilst outside, President Laurie presented some of the kits to Louise Botting.

The Royal Society of St George was founded in 1894 to promote England, Englishness and the English Way of Life. It has over 100 branches the world over. The Seahaven Branch was formed in 2010 for the District of Lewes, with surrounding towns and villages. Apart from monthly meetings for lunch or dinner, the branch uses its surplus money to provide gifts to local charities or worthwhile causes. Over 24 different organisations have already been helped since the formation of the branch. It also promotes the celebration of St George's Day as England's National Day. The branch, now known as a Centurian branch, has over 100 members from the area.
