STONEWATER TO UNVEIL PROPOSALS FOR NEW AFFORDABLE HOMES IN NEWHAVEN

July 18th 2018.

Stonewater, one of the UK’s leading housing associations, is proposing to redevelop the former Parker Pen Factory site off Railway Road in Newhaven with new affordable homes and public open space.

The proposals would transform the former factory site into 145 affordable homes in a range of styles and sizes – from one-bedroom flats up to four-bedroom houses. The plans also include scenic landscaping, a play area, as well as public open space.

As part of its commitment to community engagement, Stonewater is inviting the local community to contribute to the proposal, helping to develop a scheme which benefits residents and enhances the local area.

Plans will be displayed by the project team:

On: Thursday 19th July 2018

Between: 3.30pm and 7.30pm

At: Meeching Hall, Fort Road, Newhaven

Visitors will be able to view the proposals, discuss the scheme with the project team, and provide the feedback before Stonewater submit a planning application in the coming months.

The land was home to the Parker Pen factory until its closure in 2010 and subsequent demolition. The brownfield site was then granted outline planning permission by Lewes District Council in November 2015, which established the principle of residential development, as well as the access, layout and scale.

Stonewater is bringing forward these residential plans with a Reserved Matters application. The plans will not only contribute to the Lewes District Council’s target of building between 460-520 homes per year, but will provide much needed affordable housing (including affordable rent, rent to buy and shared ownership), a children’s play area, and public open space. There will also be a public access through the site to Eastside Park.
