STC SEEKS RESPONSE TO SUTTON ROAD PLAN

October 12th, 2021.

STC release:

Seaford Town Council has been informed that a Planning Application has been submitted to Lewes District Council, the local planning authority, by Churchill Retirement Living, for the construction of a block of 37 one and two bedroom apartments on land at Sutton Road adjoining the all-weather sports park at the Downs Leisure Centre. The four detached houses at 83 to 89 Sutton Road currently on the site would be demolished to make way for the new development.

The proposed development would be made up of three linked blocks as illustrated above

The plans and supporting documents can be found on the District Council’s website at www.lewes.gov.uk under application reference LW/21/0660

The Town Council is aware that a proposal for 37 apartments on this prominent site on the main A259 is bound to be of interest to Seaford residents.

The applicants consulted local residents on the application by letter in May 2021, although the response was extremely limited. 160 letters were sent out but only nine responses were received; all but one were objections.

Now that the application has been submitted, the proposal for 37 apartments on this prominent site on the main A259 is bound to be of interest to all Seaford residents not just those living in the locality.

The Town Council has been asked for its comments on the application and would be interested to hear residents’ views before considering its response. Residents can submit their comments to the Town Council either in writing, via post or email, and/or by attending the meeting at which the Town Council will agree its response and making a statement.

The Town Council’s Planning and Highways Committee will be considering this application at its meeting on Thursday 21st October. The Town Council has arranged for this meeting to be held in the Steyne Road site of Seaford Head School rather than within its own Council Chambers, as this will allow for a greater number of the public to attend should they wish to.

The agenda for this meeting, along with details on how to submit comments and attend the meeting, will be posted on the Town Council’s website at www.seafordtowncouncil.gov.uk on 14th October and issued by email. If you would like to register to receive this email, please let the Town Council know by emailing admin@seafordtowncouncil.gov.uk
