SEAFORD YOUNG MAYOR RAISES FUNDS FOR SIX DEFIBRILLATORS

September 13th, 2017.

Each year the Young Mayor of Seaford Town Council raises money to support a local charity or a good cause of their choice. The 2016/2017 Young Mayor, Jessica Batchelor, decided to raise money for the community, to introduce two defibrillators to Seaford Town.

Jessica started her term as Young Mayor by visiting local organisations and talking at their events about her defibrillator project, which resulted with many kind and generous donations being received. A donation from the Parish of Seaford and the NPS Lions Club, pictured below right, was received for sponsorship of two defibrillator units.

Jessica also organised a non-uniform day with Seaford Head pupils, with all contributions donated to the project. Jessica and her Deputy Young Mayor, Thomas Exley, also took a stand at Seaford’s Christmas Magic event and held a Tombola with some fabulous donated items from members of the community and local businesses. Following the success of this fundraising effort, Jessica was able to purchase the two defibrillators she originally planned for Seaford Town and received a grant from the British Heart Foundation for a further four defibrillator units being placed within Seaford Town.

Jessica thought hard about where to place the six defibrillator units, wanting to make sure there was a good coverage throughout the town. The defibrillator units are now placed at Martello Tower Toilets on the seafront, The View at Seaford Head Golf Course, Seaford & Blatchington Tennis Club on Belgrave Road, St. Leonard’s Church in Seaford Town and St. Luke’s Church on Walmer Road.

Jessica said: "I’m so pleased to have completed my Young Mayor’s project by placing six defibrillator units in Seaford town. I couldn’t have done it without all the help, support and donations from the kind people of Seaford.

"I am still continuing with the Parliamentary Bill which I have submitted with help from Maria Caulfield, the local MP, for mandatory defibrillators in public spaces."
