Over 100 members of the public attended Seaford’s recent Annual Town Forum to see the Mayor’s Awards and presentations from local community groups and charities.

The 2017 Town Forum, hosted by Seaford Town Council, took place at The View at Seaford Head on Tuesday 23rd May and was a very positive meeting full of key updates and information.

The recently elected Mayor of Seaford, Councillor Linda Wallraven, welcomed all those in attendance to the event and started the proceedings. Presentations were made by Citizens Advice Bureau, CTLA, Seaford Bonfire Society, Seaford Lifeguards, SeeAbility and Waves Seaford Ltd who had received large financial grants from the Council in the last year. The presentations ranged from verbal updates and participation from the audience to a lively video featuring the spectacular 2016 Seaford Bonfire Night.

All the presentations were informative sessions and helped raise understanding and awareness of how these vital grants can really change people’s lives and improve the town of Seaford.

Also present were those groups and charities in receipt of small grants, who had taken the time to arrange display stands letting people know more about what they do and with literature to give out. Groups presenting included Crouch Bowling Club, Mercread Youth Centre, Seaford Choral Society, Seaford Museum and Heritage, Seaford Music Society, Seaford Lifeguards, SeeAbility, Southern Water, The Neighbourhood Plan, Beat The Street, Seaford Flood Action Group, and Eastbourne Epilepsy Group.

Attendees were also able to hear about the Strategic Objectives recently adopted by Seaford Town Council and how the Council is working towards achieving these, including sustaining and improving the economic wellbeing of the town, its environment and recreational facilities, meeting the needs of the community and practising good governance.

During the event presentations were also made to the former Mayor’s chosen charities of the funds raised throughout the past year. Councillor Freeman was thrilled to be able to present Waifs and Strays with their cheque of £1,750, The RNLI will pick up a similar cheque soon.

The evening then moved on to the Annual Awards with the former Mayor, Councillor Lindsey Freeman, announcing her awards. The Mayor’s Awards went to individuals who have helped support and enrich the town; Sylvia Dunn, Kristina Veasey, Terry Weeks, and Kevin Gordon.

The Annual Don Mabey Award, for to individuals for outstanding service to the town, was presented to a group rather than an individual ~ Congratulations to The St. James’ Trust for their fantastic work in and around the community.
