Statement from Councillor Zoe Nicholson, Leader of Lewes District Council
Lewes District Council’s Scrutiny Committee has recommended not to progress with a new health hub development on the Downs Leisure Centre in Seaford. This decision follows the findings from a special panel, set up previously by Scrutiny Committee, that considered the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed development.
A majority of councillors on Scrutiny Committee agreed with the panel, that unless a number of conditions could be satisfied, the health hub proposal should not proceed at the Downs Leisure Centre.
The recommendation will be considered by Cabinet on March 26.
Whatever the outcome of the Cabinet meeting in March, I remain committed to working with the Clinical Commissioning Group and GPs to find a solution that will deliver high quality primary care services in Seaford within surgeries that are fit for purpose.
We will meet together on February 12 to further consider the Scrutiny Committee decision and agree our next steps.
