Lewes District Green Party is supporting residents in Newhaven and South Heighton to stop two large industrial developments in Newhaven in their tracks

The Brett Group is proposing to locate an aggregates and concrete plant at Newhaven Port. Residents have voiced concerns about yet another heavy industrial site intended for Newhaven.

Local resident, Emily O’Brien (pictured left) said, ‘I’m very worried about more heavy lorries on the roads and the pollution, noise and dust that will come with the plant.’

The proposal comes on top of a separate proposal by FM Conway for a tarmac and concrete plant at North Quay, operating 24 hours a day.

Local campaigner and candidate for the District Council by-election in Ouse Valley and Ringmer Johnny Denis (pictured right), says: "Newhaven and the surrounding area needs more jobs but not at any cost.This plant will wreck plans for the promised ‘clean and green’ regeneration of Newhaven."

Johnny has been contacted by many local residents and Community Action Newhaven, CAN, a grassroots group formed to campaign for a clean, green Newhaven. He has already objected to the planned tarmac and concrete plant at North Quay because of its likely harm to the community and town.
