NEWHAVEN MARINA - SECOND COMMUNITY PRESENTATION

September 19th, 2019.

Newhaven Marina and Morgan Carn Architects are inviting residents to attend the second community engagement event to review their proposals for the redevelopment of Newhaven Marina next Wednesday, the 25th of September.

In response to comments received from residents and businesses at the first community engagement event in July, further modifications have been made to the plans.

As before, in case anyone misses the exhibition, all of the material will be available shortly after the event at
http://newhavenmarinadevelopment.co.uk

The proposals aim to complete the third and final phase of the development master plan by Morgan Carn Architects for the regeneration of the whole West Quay.

The development aims to revitalise Newhaven’s Marina as a vibrant mixed use destination, transform the first impression of visitors, raise the profile of the town and strengthen Newhaven as a south coast attraction and gateway to the UK. The Riverside walkway started in phases 1&2 will finally be completed, providing long-awaited public access to the riverside along the entire West Quay. Completing the West Quay flood defences is another key priority.

A planning application for Phase 3 (the Marina) was submitted by Morgan Carn in 2007 and planning permission was granted in 2012 (application LW/07/1475) for the erection of 331 residential apartments And townhouses in 11 blocks (between 3&9 storeys high) with car parking; 973sqm commercial floorspace (Including A3 restaurant and/or A1 marina related shops); marina facilities (including office, clubroom etc), boat/carpark, berths and riverside walkway. Phase 3 (the Marina) was a victim of the global recession and was never started.

Morgan Carn Architects’ revised proposals are claimed to be very similar in principle to the previous approval. The scheme has been redesigned with the key aims of reducing land reclamation, increasing sustainability, ensuring viability and improving the mix of uses and the quality of public waterfront public spaces.

The exhibition will take place at Meeching Hall, 2A Fort Road, Newhaven BN9 9AQ on Wednesday the 25th of September between 8.00am to 11.00am  and 16.00pm to 19.00pm.
