Every year for the past seven years on a sunny afternoon in June, a dedicated team of volunteers and the Denton Community Challenge Committee transform the Avis Road Recreation Ground in Denton  into an amazing family fun event with a sporting theme.

The format of the day is very simply all about giving the children a taste of sporting activities and challenges for a small nominal fee. The activities are provided by local sporting groups and charities and the children can take part is as many activities as they like by purchasing a score card and afterwards they are awarded a certificate and rosette for their efforts.

The event has grown year on year, with over 60 stalls and attractions taking part in 2018.

The 2019 event called ‘Let’s Score’ is next Saturday, the 8th of June from 1.00pm to 5.00pm and already looks like it is going to be bigger and better than last year, with the committee wondering if they are going to need a bigger field!

The day is not principally about fund-raising; it provides a fun and inclusive day for families to enjoy and also to raise awareness of the many sporting groups in our locality.

This year, in honour of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the opening ceremony will be performed by Newhaven Football Club Ladies, along with performances by Denton School choir, maypole dancers and  local VIP’s.

There will be all the usual fete attractions, including a wide variety of stalls, bouncy castle and a licenced bar, plus a BBQ kindly provided by the local 2nd Denton & South Heighton Scouts. Teas, coffees and cakes will be on sale in the hall, where you can also browse around the craft fair offering locally made arts, crafts and produce. The Grand Raffle will be drawn later in the afternoon and the whole day finishes with a huge Tug of War.
