NEWHAVEN HISTORICAL SOCIETY: ROMAN-PERIOD SETTLEMENT AND LAND USE IN THE OUSE VALLEY

Newhaven Historical Society's next presentation takes place at The Hillcrest Centre, Hillcrest Road, Newhaven, BN9 9EA
on Tuesday the 2nd of October.


The subject is Roman-period Settlement and Land-use in the Ouse Valley and the speaker is Dr David Rudling, FSA, MCIfA.

The talk will review the large amount of archaeological fieldwork that has been undertaken in the Ouse Valley in order to investigate and record Roman-period settlements and land-use.

Sites to be considered include the native farmstead at Bishopstone, the Romano-British villas at Newhaven, Barcombe, Beddingham and at Plumpton, and the recently discovered nucleated settlement at Bridge Farm.

The emergence and fates of these sites will be discussed.

Doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start.

Free admission for members and guests are welcome for an admission fee of just £5.00.
