NEWHAVEN CRICKET CLUB CELEBRATES

On Saturday the17th of June at Fort Road Recreation Ground, Newhaven Cricket Club celebrated 17 years of sponsorship from local accountants Tasker Osman & Co.


Their annual donation of £500 assists the club in providing opportunities for children and adults to play cricket. The money goes towards providing equipment for practice sessions as well as match day expenses, for example, pitch fees.

Jon Sanders of Tasker Osman & Co. said: “We are pleased to assist the cricket club, as investing in young people and the community provides long-term benefits to all.”

Also present were the Mayor of Newhaven, June Dyer, and the Chair of Lewes District Council, Stephen Gauntlett. June said: "As someone who played tennis and archery in Newhaven it's great that a local business should have made this investment in sport for the local community over so many years."

Stephen added: "Jon and his colleagues at Tasker Osman & Co should be congratulated for their long-term commitment to helping sport flourish in Newhaven."

MATCH REPORT - Sat 17th June - Newhaven CC 1st XI v Rotherfield CC 1st XI Parker Building Supplies East Sussex Cricket League Division 4.

John Baldock, Captain of Rotherfield, won the toss and on a hot sunny day in Newhaven decided to bat first.

Leading from the front he and fellow opener Kevin Simmonds put on 109 for the first wicket, John scoring 54 and Kevin 45. However, turning to spin from both ends, Newhaven Captain Daryl Tullett brought himself and Shaun Page on and between them turned the match on its head. Daryl taking 5 wickets for 38 and Man of the Match Shaun Page taking 5 for 24.

Rotherfield were all out for 166 in the 48th over.

Newhaven then batted and patiently made their way towards the target, eventually scoring the winning run in the 44th over, ending with 170 for 5.

Jack Brechin continuing his recent excellent run of form with 49 and Daryl Tullett being there at the end on 48 not out.

Newhaven 30 points. Rotherfield 10 points.
