SEAFORD MAYOR'S CHARITY

June 24th, 2017.

The Mayor of Seaford, Councillor Linda Wallraven, has chosen her charity for 2017/2018 as Seaford Lifeguards.

The Mayor is pleased to be able to support this local charity and explained: "It is great to be able to support Seaford Lifeguards for all of the continued hard work that the lifeguards do as volunteers throughout the summer, along such a large stretch of beach.

"By supporting Seaford Lifeguards and being able to highlight the work they do, it may encourage new volunteers to join them and enter the training program to train and qualify as a lifeguard."

Mayor Wallraven also hopes that her work with the Seaford Lifeguards over the coming year will help to increase the presence at the western end of the Seaford seafront.

Peter Gwillam, Chairman of Seaford Lifeguards, said: ‘I was delighted to hear from our Mayor that we were to be her nominated charity. We are a local charity that provides a volunteer lifeguard service to protect the thousands of visitors and local community alike that visit our beach and town every year. We are also the Sussex Flood rescue team and provide 24hr support to local flooding within Sussex and are part of the National Flood Resilience scheme.

"As a charity, we are funded entirely by donations and grants. There are no paid staff, so all monies that we receive are spent on providing our service.

"We have over 20 Lifeguards, six beach supports and our associate members who help and support us. The Flood rescue team has 12 fully-trained and equipped members and everyone in the organisation is a volunteer.

I look forward to supporting our Mayor in her fund-raising events and wish her a very memorable term in office."
