NEWHAVEN YOUTH CENTRE BUILD BEGINS

September 11th. 2019.

Following ten years of planning, consulting, designing and fundraising, Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA) has announced the start of building works for the Newhaven Youth Centre.

The ‘Breaking the Ground’ ceremony at the site on Denton Island, took place last week.

Local youngsters were joined by Mayor of Newhaven, Graham Amy; Robin Furber, Patron of SCDA; Jane Haddock, the National Lottery Community Fund; Alan Orchard, Faithorn Farrell Timms LLP; Caroline Fraser, Kirkland Fraser Moor; Stephen Harkness, HT Partnership LLP; Viki Ashby, i-Rock; the construction team from Douch and the SCDA Youth Team.

The celebration marked the beginning of the much-needed Youth Centre, the only dedicated, purpose built centre for young people in Newhaven.

Funding was successfully secured in 2018 from the National Lottery Community Fund which, together with contributions from LandAid and Newhaven Town Council, funds this new project.

There will be a wide range of activities provided within the space, including music, art, mental health and wellbeing support and Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) services.
