NEWHAVEN TOWN COUNCIL FRUSTRATION AT ADVERTISING HOARDING

October 20 2016.

Newhaven’s town councillors are claiming that a huge advertising hoarding is still in place on one of the town’s A259 roundabouts five months after it first appeared. The Council claims that the advertising company Directional Media erected the billboard in May on land belonging to East Sussex County Council without either seeking permission from the land owners or applying for planning consent.

Five months later and Newhaven Town Council claims that the company has made no attempt to apply for planning permission and has refused to comply with requests from the County Council to remove it.

The Chair of the town council’s Planning & Development Committee, Councillor Darren Grover says: “This hoarding is a huge eyesore in a prominent location in the town. It is a major distraction for drivers at a busy junction. It has been erected illegally on County Council land without permission. We find it extraordinary that this company can be allowed to get away with this for so long and that five months later, the County Council has still not taken action to remove the hoarding from their property themselves.”
