NEWHAVEN ON TRACK

Newhaven’s impressive new pumptrack is now open and proving hugely popular, while work is well underway on the adjoining skatepark.

The newly-built pumptrack at Fort Road Recreation Ground has attracted BMXers, mountain bikers, scooter riders and skateboarders from across the region since its recent opening.

Once the skatepark is completed later this summer, it will be fully integrated with the pumptrack, making the site truly unique, as riders will be able to move seamlessly between both elements.

Newhaven skatepark and pumptrack is being funded by Newhaven Town Council and Section 106 and Community Infrastructure Levy monies from Lewes District Council.

Councillor Isabelle Linington, Leader of Lewes District Council, said: “Already this has become a great new facility for people of all ages from Newhaven and beyond.

“The designers have cleverly used the natural contours of the land to create a bespoke pumptrack and it’s exciting to see the skatepark next to it taking shape, with both parts set to fully complement each other.”

The project is being built by Clark & Kent Contractors who have a worldwide reputation in the world of BMX, having constructed the London 2012 Olympic BMX track.
