MAJOR NEW POLL SHOWS MacCLEARY SET TO WIN LEWES

Lewes Lib Dems release:

A new MRP poll from YouGov has suggested that the Liberal Democrats are on course to win Lewes constituency should a General Election be held. The seat was previously held by the Liberal Democrats from 1997 to 2015.

The poll nationally, as covered by the Mirror, shows 24 'Blue Wall' seats falling to the Liberal Democrats, including Lewes constituency, which takes in Seaford, Newhaven, Polegate, and surrounding villages.

Lewes is a two horse race, with the Liberal Democrats as the clear challengers to the Conservatives. The polling projects Labour winning just 5% of the vote.

The Lib Dems were less than 3% behind the Conservatives at the last election, leaving the seat on a knife-edge at the next General Election.

It comes following a host of election wins and growing momentum for the Liberal Democrats. Over the last twelve months, the party has won by-elections in Buckinghamshire, Shropshire, and Devon, winning formerly safe Conservative seats as voters swing behind the Liberal Democrats. The party also gained more seats than any other at the local elections in May.

Liberal Democrat candidate, James MacCleary, is campaigning for a fair deal for residents. He is backing a cut to VAT, which would save households an average of £600.00, and has called on current Conservative MP and Health Minister, Maria Caulfield, to back his calls for better GP access in Seaford, Polegate and elsewhere in the constituency.

Reacting to the poll, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Lewes constituency, James MacCleary, said: "I'm out on doorsteps every week talking to local residents and this poll reflects exactly what they've been telling me.

“Maria Caulfield and this Conservative Government have taken our area for granted. Residents tell me that they want someone who will speak up for our towns and villages, not a government mouthpiece. As a health minister she has simply trotted out government spin while local people have to wait months just to see a GP or NHS dentist.

“Residents are sick to their back teeth of the raw deal they’re getting from Boris Johnson’s Conservatives. They are exhausted by the endless scandals that have shown this government to lack any sense of integrity or decency. The Conservatives have failed our local health service, hiked our taxes, and pumped sewage into our rivers for too long. It's time for a change."
