LEWES GREENS PICK JOHNNY

Lewes Green Party release:

The Lewes Green Party has chosen popular local Councillor, Johnny Denis, as its candidate for the Lewes Constituency at the next General Election.

"I'm thrilled to be given this opportunity. This government has almost bankrupted local government - so we don't get the services we deserve," said Councillor Denis.

"I am the only local Councillor who spoke against both the Conway and the Brett Planning application at the County Planning Committee. I have stood up for Newhaven against dirty industries and I will add my voice to those who are fighting for a future for the port which offers Clean, Green and Marine jobs and livelihoods and who seek to protect Tide Mills from development.”

Johnny Denis, who went to Tideway School, won a seat on Lewes District Council last year from the Conservatives, knocking the Liberal Democrats into a distant third place after just having been pipped at the post to be the Greens' first County Councillor earlier in the year.

Since joining Lewes District in September, he has already been made Vice-Chairman of the Council with support from across the board. Councillor Denis is also a Parish Councillor for both Ringmer and for Glynde and Beddingham Parish Councils.

Co-Chair of Lewes Greens and former prospective parliamentary candidate, Katie Hawks, said of Johnny: "He is really hard-working and well-liked by his residents. Everyone knows that Johnny gets things done all year round, not just with an election around the corner. He'll make a great choice for all of us."

Johnny said: "As for Brexit - this mess is destroying our economy already. I'm calling for a People's Vote on the final terms."
