HAVENS CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN HITS TARGET

June 15th, 2020.

The Havens coastal community (Saltdean to Seaford) has pulled together to help raise over £5000 for a local non-profit organisation to continue its work as lockdown continues to be eased in stages.

The Silver Linings Project by the Havens Community Hub was picked as one of the winning entrants of the ‘Projects That Matter’ competition run by East Sussex County Council, which offered match funding opportunities through the Crowdfunder platform. The project received a video message of praise and support from actor, Christopher Biggins.

Havens Community Hub was established to meet unmet need and quickly adapted its services to the C19 crisis by supporting elderly and vulnerable members of the community with welfare calls, shopping and prescription deliveries and day-to-day problem solving.

They also formed a partnership with FareShare to re-distribute hundreds of kilos of perishable produce to prevent it from entering landfill, supported local foodbank initiatives, and have launched a mental health ‘Happy Box’ project.

With a new office opening in Thompson Road, Denton, the Havens Community Hub will be able to provide a drop-in for groups, charities and volunteers to use where they can access wi-fi, refreshments and administrative support for free.
