FUNDRAISING WALK - 100 MILES FOR 100 YEARS

November 2nd, 2018.

To commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice in 1918 and to raise funds for The Royal British Legion, the Chairman of The Royal Society of St George, Joanna Cadman (65) will walk 100 miles for 100 years.

Accompanied by Jeffrey Long MBE, 87, a veteran fundraiser, her epic walk will start at Sandwich in Kent, close to the First World War port of Richborough, and link the other ports involved in supplying the Forces in France during the war. These will be Dover, the home of the Royal Navy’s Dover Patrol, Folkestone and Newhaven.

The walk starts at the Sandwich War Memorial at 8.30am next Tuesday, the 6th of November, and finishes just before 11.00am on Sunday the 11th of November at Newhaven War Memorial.

Day One. November 6th. Sandwich to Dover by way of Deal and St Margaret’s at Cliffe.

Day Two. November 7th.
Dover to Dymchurch, by way of the Battle of Britain Memorial and Memorial Arch at Folkestone.

Day Three. November 8th. A change from walking - 9.00am special train on the RHD Rye to Dungeness then car to nearby Camber Sands. This uses up the excess miles on the journey greater than 100. Then walk to Rye and then to Fairlight.

Day Four. November 9th.
Fairlight to Cooden Beach by way of Hastings and Bexhill Sea Front.

Day Five. November 10th.
Cooden Beach to Seaford by way of Eastbourne and Beachy Head.

Day Six. November 11th. Seaford War Memorial to Newhaven War Memorial by way of First World War RNAS Sea Plane Base and Newhaven Harbour Station.

Where possible the walk will follow the coastal paths, but this could be varied subject to weather conditions.

At some towns on the walk, Joanna will plant commemorative crosses where First World War VCs are recorded.

Last year Chairman Joanna walked 80 miles from HMS Victory to Nelson’s Column and raised nearly £3000 for charity including the Forces Charity Combat Stress.
