FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS OCTOBER MEETING

October 24th, 2018.

Jim Skinner reports:

21 Friends of Tide Mills completed the October meeting and clear up on Sunday and were blessed with amazingly glorious weather. Our downward trend of litter-gathering continues in that we managed just four bags of assorted rubbish this time, plus one, it has to said, very full bag of recyclables.

As always, we do very much appreciate that there are many individuals and local volunteer groups helping in this ongoing effort to keep Tide Mills both spick and span and championed. The more we are, the stronger we are in being able to do this. There is no doubt that Tide Mills is well and truly "on the map" now and appreciated as this vital, peaceful open space as probably never before.

The latest Lewes District Council development plan is now out for comment, which we have taken the opportunity to do. Our concern, (with our friends Community Action Newhaven), is that it is possible that more of Tide Mills land, in addition to that already being lost to port expansion and the ESCC Port Access Road, could be earmarked for future development. Our basic premise is that there should be no more land to the Seaford Side of the Port Access Road earmarked for development, and indeed all such land should be officially re-designated as open space. We have Newhaven Town Council support for this argument and hopefully soon, Seaford Town Council.

Our next meeting is on Sunday the 18th of November; always the third Sunday of the month, if you appreciate Tide Mills and want it preserved and are interested in joining our friendly little band, where you can be sure to meet some great, friendly like-minded people, please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com
