FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS NOVEMBER MEETING AND CLEAN-UP

November 20th, 2017.

Jim Skinner reports:

Eighteen members of the Friends of Tide Mills enjoyed their November meeting yesterday in very seasonally cold but dry weather, which is always welcome.

We collected just six bags of assorted rubbish this time; another very pleasing result and continuing the trend of reducing litter amounts this year. We have also started to separate our recyclable rubbish this year, which one of our members, David Turvey, kindly undertakes for us. This is at least ensuring that not all our collected rubbish ends up at the incinerator.

Of course these six bags are six bags too many, but very pleasing nonetheless. As always we extend our sincere thanks to all who appreciate Tide Mills as the invaluable open space it remains and take a little time to help us keep it so well cared for.

Our formal objection to the Brett aggregates application for a massive plant and concrete manufactory inside the port has now been lodged with ESCC planners. We are registered to speak at the hearing, the date of which has not yet been set. The formal application can be found HERE.

Public consultation runs until the 22nd of December. Readers are encouraged to comment either way on this application which, if granted, will undoubtedly significantly and permanently adversely affect the west end of Tide Mills.

Both Newhaven and Seaford Town councils are to debate this application, NTC on the 28th of November and STC on the 7th of December.

Our next meeting, including our traditional Christmas picnic, is taking place on the 17th of December. Please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com or go to our website at  www.friendsoftidemills.webs.com/
