FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS DECEMBER MEETING AND CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

December 19 2016.

Jim Skinner reports:

The Friends of Tide Mills met yesterday and had what proved to be a record-breaking meeting with 25 of us of us collecting nearlyy a record amount of rubbish, with three large stockpiles of bulky, mainly fishing industry related discard of nets, fish baskets, line etc., and 20 sacks worth of smaller items.

Almost all of the items recovered have undoubtedly blown in off the sea, proving, once again, that those who make their living from the sea appear to be the main dumpers into it. This is of course shameful.

David Turvey's photograph above, gives an idea of how much we collected.

On a much more cheerful note, we were joined by two new members.

Following the clean-up we all participated in our annual Christmas Picnic, to celebrate the end of another very successful year in helping to preserve this fantastic area of open space on our doorstep.

Our next and first meeting of 2017 is taking place on Sunday the 15th of January -  always the third Sunday of the month - 10 til 12, meeting at the old village beach road waymarker.

We always welcome new members to our friendly little band, no matter how much time can be spared. The more we are the easier it is to ensure Tide Mills stays cared for and how we all like to see it.
