FRIENDS OF TIDE MILLS DECEMBER CLEAN-UP AND MEETING

December 18th, 2017.

Nineteen members of the Friends of Tide Mills enjoyed their last meeting of 2017 yesterday in very seasonally cold but dry weather, which is always appreciated.

We collected nine bags of assorted rubbish and recyclables this time. Throughout 2017 there has been a very heartening and continuing trend of reducing litter amounts. Obviously, we hope this continues into 2018 and onwards.

After our meeting, we enjoyed our traditional Christmas picnic, which is something we all look forward to.

We again extend our sincere thanks and the seasons greetings to all who appreciate Tide Mills as the invaluable open space it remains and take a little time to help us keep it so well cared for.

As we reported last month, our formal objection to the Brett Aggregates application for a massive plant and concrete manufactory inside the Port has now been lodged with ESCC planners. The last date for formal input to this planning application is the 22nd of December, so there are only a few days left to register any objections to this very concerning proposal. We are registered to speak at the hearing, the date of which has not yet been set. The formal application can be found HERE

Readers are encouraged to comment either way on this application, which, if granted, will undoubtedly significantly and permanently adversely affect the west end of Tide Mills. Both Newhaven and Seaford Town councils have recently now both objected formally, for which we are very appreciative.

Unfortunately, another issue has just surfaced, this one for a "small" medical waste incinerator, again inside the port, details of which can be found HERE.

The Friends of Tide Mills will be voicing its serious concerns about this latest proposal. The cut off for comments is the 6th of January. Again we do encourage comments either way if possible. The planning process is in two stages, the first, at the link above, is seeking an operational permit from LDC, the second stage is a formal development permission from ESCC.

If readers are interested in joining our informal, very friendly, small but steadily growing group of Tide Mills guardians, you will be made most welcome.

Our next meeting, the first of 2018, is Sunday the 21st of January. Please contact me at brianjimskinner@gmail.com or go to our website at www.friendsoftidemills.webs.com/

Thank you.
Jim Skinner.
