DISTRICT’S COVID RESPONSE ACKNOWLEDGED AND PRAISED

LDC Conservatives release:

Residents and business owners across the Lewes district have been thanked for their fortitude during the current health crisis. The largest elected group on Lewes District Council has praised the response of individuals, voluntary organisations, health workers and council staff during these unprecedented times.

Conservative councillors have uniformly welcomed the government’s latest support packages and the way the various town and village communities have come together in these extraordinary circumstances to help one another, and especially the vulnerable.

“It has been extremely difficult, we know, for everyone during the past few weeks since lockdown,” said Cllr. Isabelle Linington, the Conservative group leader. “By following the scientific advice and staying at home, we have been able to save lives and protect the NHS by limiting the spread of this dreadful virus.

“Everyone is to be congratulated for the sacrifices they have made to normal routines, whether it was to remain at home despite the glorious weather, maintaining key services or assisting the vulnerable. The level of neighbourly support has been amazing. It is now vital that we follow the latest government guidelines to ensure that we continue to reduce the coronavirus spread”, added Cllr Linington.

“Despite any scaremongering you may have seen, the government has pledged to provide whatever support councils, our social care workers and residents of care homes need through this crisis and will continue to safeguard those most vulnerable in society,” she assured residents.

“I am delighted to now see the ruling coalition on Lewes District Council supporting the government advice and very much hope this will see an end to the mischievous and fearful rumour-mongering previously spread in some quarters.”
