CONSULTATION LAUNCHED OVER TAXI LICENSING

January 25th, 2021.

Lewes District Council residents are invited to have their say about how taxi and private hire drivers are licensed across the district.

LDC, which is the licensing authority for all Hackney Carriage and Private Hire applicants in the district, launched the six-week consultation today.

The council has reviewed its guidance regarding those seeking licences to take account of the Department for Transport’s Statutory Standards for the Taxi and Private Hire trade published last year. People are now being asked for their views on the updated council document.

Councillor Johnny Denis, Cabinet member for Communities and Customers, said: “Taxi and private hire play an important transport role, especially in providing essential services for people with mobility issues and in some rural areas where public transport is not available.

“Our guidance sets out the terms and conditions that will apply to drivers to ensure people are kept safe, while improving standards of service.”

The draft guidance and online survey are available HERE.

Councillor Denis added: “I hope as many people as possible, from residents to drivers and taxi firm operators, take part in this consultation by reading the draft guidance and completing our online survey.”
