CHAIN MAIL - NEWHAVEN MAYOR’S NOVEMBER BLOG

November 26 2012.

Well here we are just four weeks from Christmas and 2013 is just around the corner! My year as Mayor seems to be flying by, but what a year it has been with the Queen's Jubilee, the Olympics and particularly the Disabled Olympics, where the town hosted abled and disabled cyclists from all over the world.

This month my wife and I enjoyed a few days as guest of the Mayor of La Chapelle St Mesmin, the French town we twinned with last year. We discussed possible exchange visits with dance groups, natural history groups, sports clubs and bands. The Mayor is very keen that families in Newhaven have the opportunity to visit his town and has offered to pay for the coach transport in France. Families will only have to pay their ferry fare, as bed and board will be supplied by our French hosts. Contact Norman Hopson on 01273 588193 if you are interested in the Twinning Association.

On behalf of the Council can I say a very big thank you to all those who supported Remembrance Day. Once again there was a great turn out and the people of Newhaven have been extremely generous as always. I understand the Poppy Appeal has raised an amazing £12,000.

Other Mayoral duties this month have included presenting the art prizes at the Ouse Valley Cycle Network, opening the Christmas grotto at Garden Paradise and attending an art exhibition at Peacehaven. My wife and I were also guests at the Sussex University Royal Naval Unit dinner and we helped support the White Ribbon Campaign to bring an end to domestic violence.

If any Haven News visitors have any Council or other problems they think I can help with, I can usually be found around 9.00 to 9.30am at the Searchlight Charity Shop in the High Street, or on 01273 514942.
