Newhaven resident Oli Crawley and his business partner Tom Jennion have been keeping themselves busy over at their Portslade-based coffee shop.

As lockdown measures eased to allow food and drink outlets to offer a takeaway service, Crawley and Jennion set up a door-to-door delivery service offering their premium blend speciality Coffees, signature-dish Brownies and multi-flavoured Sausage Rolls. The initial delivery service was restricted to in-and-around the Brighton and Hove area, but now extends as far as Worthing and Seaford.

When the hard-working front-line Main Theatre team at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, caught wind of the Blend Coffee Co take-outs, they were quick to put in an order, and the Blend team was quick to donate and deliver a large consignment of goodies to the highly-pressured department. “Thank-you, best home delivery I had in ages. The staff in Main Theatres enjoyed their sausage rolls. Highly recommend the cheese and marmite,” said RSCH Main Theatre Sister Deborah Jones.

Crawley and Jennion then went on to open their coffee shop for take-aways from its Boundary Road, Portslade, premises and were contacted by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy with a request to feature the business as a case study for the Business Support campaign. “The Department was interested in the measures and methodologies of operation we implemented to re-open our Portslade store, and keep both customers and the team safe. And, we were happy to oblige,” said Crawley.
